Ramgharia Council UK celebrates: Ramgharia Misl Day

On Monday 30th May Gurinder Singh Mann delivered a special presentation on the history and legacy of Sikh warrior of the Ramgharia Misl-Jassa Singh Ramgharia (1723-1803).
Mann explained the relevance of the Jassa Singh during the Misl period and the impact of capturing many territories in the Punjab.He started the lecture by discussing the role of Bhai Hardas Singh, Bhai Bhagwan Singh the grandfather and father respectively of Jassa Singh. It was noted that Bhai Hardas was instrumental in the preparation of manuscripts and whose name should be recited with Bhai Mani Singh and Baba Deep Singh.

When the Mughals and Afghans were at the strongest Jassa Singh’s contribution was instrumental in turning the tide against them.The valiant role played by Jassa Singh in the protection of Ram Rauni (later renamed Ramgharh) was also discussed by him. The battles of Ahmed Shah Abdali with the Khalsa was noted by Qazi Noor Mohammed who described Jassa Singh as’ a lion in battle.’

Mann also described how Jassa Singh took over the Red fort and how the historic sil (coronation stone) was taken by him and deposited into what we know call the Ramgharia Bungas. There was a number of rare information and images presented as part of the presentation. Many dignitaries were present on the occasion.
